We are delighted to join the SLA Europe webinar to share information about how librarians can support researchers in identifying trusted journals and advocate for active publishing choices.
Predatory publishing is not a new phenomenon and goes by many names, so finding a trusted journal can be challenging even for experienced researchers. The consequences of predatory publishing can harm a researcher’s reputation and career, particularly if they are unable to pay the large fees to withdraw their article or reassert their authorship.
Librarians and information professionals are often asked for advice on trustworthy publishing outlets and to support this, we have built a range of resources to avoid publishing traps and obstacles. The journal checklist is TCS’s leading tool, which is now available in 45 languages, as well as their more recent checklist for books and chapters, which has been developed in collaboration with OAPEN (Open Access Publishing in European Networks).
This webinar will provide a brief overview of predatory publishing and why it’s becoming a growing problem, as well as how TCS works and how various libraries have embedded TCS principles and checklists into their websites. The webinar will also provide practical examples to support sound publishing choices and how to advocate for active publishing choices, regardless of role or sector, followed by a Q&A with our speakers.
